It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
